    Fuel drip

    Hi Guys

I have found a fuel leak that has been dripping and ending up in the V aftertheengine has been run. I thoughtit was the RH float chamber so took it off yesterday and re-sealed it with hylomar after cleaning gasket and using cellulose to clean all surfaces. The drip appears to be coming of thestater, as its referred to in the parts book. Do these normally leak andif so, whats behind them, a chamber? Is it a gasket or an easy rubber O ring?

    Arrow is showing the drip

    Any help appreciated

    Andrew

Yeah these do tend to leak but i find if you remove the three screws take unit off the carb, use carb cleaner and clean the internals well and refit ,the bloody things stop leaking, god knows why but it works. All that is in there is a disc with holes in it.

OK, I have now removed, got distracted by my son and now I cant remember which way round the disc goes, can anyone help please?

If you have a pair of carbs off the car I would really appreciate you kindly having a look unless anyone else knows off by hand. I will post both images of the options. this is the right hand carb and the choke lever is in the off position

        Any help very much appreciated

        Andrew

Sorry, can't help you there Andrew, but you have made me think that maybe that is why my car is possibly running rich - did not realise they could go on the wrong way round:shock:

Will find out tomorrow, as going for a tune-up:dude:

Thanks Andy and thanks Dave, what an excellent link, thanks very much

                    Will fit it tomorrow night.

Its interesting that it mentions a gasket as mine had nothing, not even a sealant of any kind. Could explain why it suddenly leaked

                    Thanks again

                      Hi Andrew,

I had never seen a gasket in this position either until I bought a rebuild kit from LDPart, and this had a pair of gaskets, so I fitted them.

It makes sense to have one and iffitted I know it wont leak again. I have been having this leak only whilst the engine was running. Not with just the ignition on under pressure or after engine has been running, only during. Also explains why the engine has been fumy on a run butnothing much to see.

I may get around 35mpg on a run now

                        Thanks for your help again

Mine never had gaskets under the starter but fitting one cured the same leak. From comments on here it always seems to be the drivers side carb that gets this leak. Prehaps the angle of the choke cable puts more leverage on the starter this side :?

Mine only leaks while the choke is out, otherwise fine. Never got round to fitting gasket.
