I have recently just returned from a trip to France, I usually do this trip 2 or 3 times a year to work on our faller downer ( my disaffectionate reference to what most people call a fixer upper). I must be a masochist I run a Stag and own a tumbledown house in France.
On this visit I encountered my first vehicle problem in six years of doing these trips, my vehicle suffered a tyre failiure caused by a crack in the schrader valve where it passes through the wheel. Every time I prepare for the journeys I always carry out all the normal checks to the tyres and engine but have never paid any attention to the tyre valves, however I certainly will be checking them in future and I strongly advise anyone who is preparing to travel to europe with their car to do likewise.
For me this has been an expensive learning curve
the cost of the new tyre was £124 for a nankang budget item which I could obtain in england for £50 to £60, also the tyre was not ex stock and took the French dealer a week to obtain causing me to extend my stay by one day. My vehicle is a 1991 Toyota Hiace grey import mpv the tyres on it are 205 70 R14 reinforced commercial type
