Hi all, after about five years, my radio fitting adaptor (plastic) has started to distort and looks a bit shabby, has anyone come up with an alternative, apart from changing the lower panel or one of those stainless cover plates ? Martin.
Martin, I have an original metal 'conversion plate' to fit the normal radio in the '8 track' hole. Don't need it as I have made another wooden bit with the 'normal' size hole. PM me your email address and I will send you a pic - Alan
I filled the hole with a jigsawed piece of MDF, then a thin piece of aluminium to cover it up. If you don't like the aluminium finish this could be sprayed black, or covered in vinyl.
I did this before the adapters where available.
Also covered the wood around the auto selector at the same time to cover a number of unused holes.
It sounds like you have one of the early resin cast versions of the radio insert. The new ones are made from a high automotive grade ABS plastic and are CNC machined instead of cast.
