Question... How long should a new Track Rod End last ?

Hi all.

After arriving in Norway and driving from Stavanger to Oslo I experienced a problem with the steering rack.Taking the car to Smart Classics near Fredrikstad, they rebuilt the rack and also fitted NEW TRACK ROD ENDS from Rimmer Bros and reset the geometry on the wheels. The car drove perfect.

After coveringapprox 500miles a wobble developed on the front.. back to Smart Classics up on the ramp again. Guess what they found ?

Both of the NEW TRACK ROD ENDSwhere shagged:shock::shock:

Now I ask where can I get reliable and lastingTRACK ROD ENDS:?:?

Someone else on here got 50 miles out of a James paddock track rod end i recall.Things are getting grim.

I got mine from LDPart (Peter Howells). Seem to be good quality, I've had no issues with any of his stuff. I no longer buy from the usual suspects unless I am absolutely desperate.

I'm sure you'd have no problems by going to Peter.

As I said in the county oil pump thread, all parts should be sourced from an ISO acredited supplier preferrably british!

We should demand this from our suppliers, ZF Lemforder is based in Wednesbury W Mids and manufactures track rod ends for Jaguar etc I'm sure they or another company could manufacture batches of Track rod ends for someone as big as Rimmer?

Back to your problem it sounds like your rod ends left the factory without grease in them or inferior steel had been used in the manufacture of the ball and it had not been burnished?

Take it apart and examine the wear and see if there is any grease!
