    Inlet Manifold fiasco

On Monday I decided to change my inlet manifold gaskets, all was going well untill I got to the area of 1 and 3,out of the 3 bolts in this area the long bolt had seized so had the short one that isaccessable but at least the awkward bolt that sits under the manifold came out.I squirted penetrating oil at regular intervals most of the day, still no movement, same again on tuesday still no movement, at this point I calledup a specialist to see if he could remove them,he came round wednesday morning whilst he was there I said I will have one last go with the molegrips, out they came, still cost me for the call out but at least they were out.

Today put manifold back on,the last poxy bolt,a short one,the thread pulled, off came the manifold again, run out of 5/16 unc helicoils, phoned round no one had anyeventually located one at a motorcycle repair garage, put the new insert in,put it back together and everything seems watertight and its running good, bought 8 old stock Unipart GSP2382 spark plugs(N12),runs sweet as a nut.(for the time being)

If I had a pulled a thread the second time I put the manifold I think I would have pushedthe caroff a cliff.

I know how you feel,I have just spent an hour butchering the final nut and bolt off my left hand half shaft / diff flange
Right hand side were all free , the left side ones were a nightmare.

Renamed it the Triumph Snag tonight .

Sends me in a trance,I forget where I left things, spentan hour looking for the nut that holds the carbs down,my backs killing me,a job that would have took about 3 hours turned into nearly a week on and off.

I think I will run my car on neat K-seal,no more trouble then.:P

I should have Russ with hindsight,my trouble is im in to much of a hurry to get it all back together again. What made it worse I had three mates at different times pop by yesterday just as im trying to put things back together, had to stop what I was doing, put the kettle on, stop for half an hour.

            Hi
I learned that one the hard way too - a little advance work saves a lot of time in the long run!
