    footrest for auto Stags

    Hello,

I just bought a second hand footrest for the left foot to be used in an auto Stag. I have a Stag built in Nov. 1971. Are there any holes with threads provided already or shall I put it on the gearbox tunnel or onthe bulkhead?

    A photo would be great.

    Kind regards, Dieter.

    Good Morning Dieter

My Foot rest has captive nuts on the transmission tunnel, if you lift the carpet on the tunnel under the heater you will see the threaded holes there.

I hope you find this view looking back from the underside of the engine compartment useful.

Yep. Done with it now though. I offered it for sale on this site not so long ago..no takers. It's stashed outside now, succumbing to the elements I'm afraid, pretty soon I'll take it to the scrap merchant and get its value in weight. Shame.

                    Hi Dieter,

My carmust have beenbuilt almost the same time as yours and did not have the captive nuts for the footrest.

After drillingthe two holes in the tunnel I didn't want to weld the nuts to the car so I welded a strap to the two bolts (like the ones that hold the gearbox rear crossmember in place) then fitted them from underneath using some mastic sealant to hold them in place.

From memory, thelocation for the restisn't too difficult as there is really only one place where it will fit.

                    Pete

Have a search on ebay or Google for Rivet Nuts or Rivnuts. These work like pop rivets and squeeze a captive nut into a panel.

Getting your nuts captive in a panel is serious stuff, that's for sure......
