De-rusting solution

A while ago one of the classic mags had a de-rusting soak solution made of coca cola and harpic....

A neighbour wants to soak some old E type Jag bits to clean them up, so I'm wondering if anyone can remember the proportions.....

and it reads:

classics monthly did a test on all rust removers/preventors by coating the bare rear deck of a herald in all the usual products and leaving it in a damp garage for a year - the results were very interesting, with eastwoods rust encapsulator beating por 15 and dinitrol converust. They also made their own cheap but very effective rust remover by mixing a litre of harpic with four litres of coca-cola (mixture of phosphoric and hydrochloric acids) in a sealable tub and leaving some rusty components sealed in the tub for a few days - parts looked superb when brought out! The tests and some results are in issues 145 & 147 if your interested.

sounds like one of the cocktails I used to drink when I was a student

a friend of mine has a chemical business and he supplies rust treatments to the military amongst others. I have a large pot of it and keen to know how effective it is. I can drop that round if you want?

Nothing to do with your de-rusting post Russ - but this is relevant to you personally.
Went to a new venue & a new show last night in Tenerife called "The Rock Story".
It was a tribute to the the "Beatles", "Pink Floyd", and "Queen". The show was brilliant and the venue fantastic. All around the walls of the venue were loads of rock "memorabilia" which you could buy, and amongst the displays was a framed signed photograph of Paul Weller which made me think of you. They were asking €34.99 for it. As you met him in a bar in Holland I am sure you have got your own momento of him. Anyone coming to Tenerife I would highly recommend this show and the venue.
