    Parts Survey

I have a question about the club and parts for our cars.

Has the club ever carried out a survey of our cars, their condition (ie restored; project; running) and then delved deeper to try and work through people's parts needs to keep cars on the road? If the club did an annual survey then they could get an idea about what things everyone needs or is having trouble getting. I ask because I am restoring my car as some will have seen and I have stgruggled a bit on one or two parts and by my best endeavours so have those stag specialists that support us.What does everyone think about this or do most people have access to all they need? I am interested to hear people's views.

I apologise if this has come up before butI am new so won't have seen this!

Hiya Nik, welcome to another overseas member.

the survey is probably a good idea, but I doubt if enough owners would respond to make it meaningful. If you're struggeling to find anything, why not ask on here ? Martin.

the club is always asking what parts are required and survey the major stag specialists if there is any part that they believe could do with help from SOCTFL

If you have a part that your are having difficulty please identify which part this is and i will see if it has been put forward to SOCTFL before.

Hi - thanks for letting me know as I am new so was not aware. I am after a rear seat pan which I am told there is no demand for although i know that one or two restorers have taken to repairing - in my case the edges have gone and there are pin holes in it - so it is a filler job or hours with a spot welder. SOC say there is no demand for them which is fine but seems inconsistent with what I have found out so I was interested to look in to the situation more closely and wondered how the club interactegd with suppliers / panel manufacture. Any help would be really appreciated as I am spending a fair bit and do not want to have the work compromised.

Thanks for responding to my enquiry - it is quite an important issue for me.

I believe the panel in question is one that has been mentioned before and the major restorers have stated that they will repair as required

I will ask at the next SOCTFL meeting but be aware that the speed of panels being available from idea being given the go ahead is not weeks but more like months to years

the panels are not manufacture from full press tools -that would be too expensive but are developed from part fabrication and part development tooling and then checked on jigs all taking time to establish working tols and acceptable parts

hope this helps wth an understanding of SOCTFL

Hi - thank you very much for the explanation. I am a bit concerned that my remark may be taken as a criticism which was not the case. As I am not a skilled panel specialist it is difficult to look at something with frilly edges and a series of pin holes and make the leap to it being repairable. I was initially offered a seat pan for £500 which was withdrawn almost immediately and told that this was because there was no tooling so this was the last one. Ditto radiator support panel (although this is not the case as some are due anytime I understand). So I guess whilst accepting that Stags are not MGBs the market place was acting at full strength on the basis of supply and demand. This will obviously worsen the outlook for Stags. Hence my enquiry.

It would look like I will be unable to get a seat pan for my car - although the only place I have not tried is a note on the wanted/for sale section of the forum. I will try this just in case there is one lurking in the corner of a garage somewhere.

Once again - thank you very much for the information and if you do come across one somewhere ....

              Hi

Marty on the forum often breaks Stags and some times cuts them up

it maybe that he has one

put the request on the for sale /wanted posting

Thanks for that - I am already in touch with Martin who incidentally has been very helpful so I think I will be approaching him with a list at some point!

I give it a whirl on the wanted section for a new panel just in case!

Have a good weekend Stu E and Roger.
