    Stag Door Bottoms

I wonder if anybody could guide me on Stag doors.

As per my earlier post I am looking to buy a Stag and have seen a couple so far. Both of these cars, as you look at the bottom of the door from underneath have been smooth with no drain holes. I was expecting to see drain holes and therefore concluded all was not as it should be.

    Was I wrong?

Hi Burt, there is one drain hole and its at the end of the door and is more of a slit. This can be blocked by waxoyl and there is therefore no escape for water. Its not obvious and there are no round clear holes, although this would be a good idea to add during a restoration as a modification

      Hi Andrew,

      Thanks for the reply.

I think the cars that I saw had door bases made from a combination of filler and fibreglass. The door skins themselves seemed fine however.

      I will continue looking!

Just checked one of my doors whichstill has the original bottom and it has one (slotted) drainhole in the middle underneath and a drainhole in eachbottom corner.

The latter are often missing from poor repair panels or are covered in filler.

Just had drivers door skin and bottom section replaced. These parts were supplied by Rimmers. Bottom section replacement was ok, but the panel beater had big headache when he replaced door skin. Rimmers one was not perfect and a great deal of filler was used to skim complete door face to make it competely flush

That is why it is better to specify SOCTFL door skins. They cost more, but fit without fettling. The additional cost of the skin is repaid in less payment to the bodyshop for labour.

Same goes for the other SOCTFL panels. Check out the advert in the magazine and also info on our website.
