    BW65 Snatching problem

Anyone out there experienced snatching problem with BW65.

Had car through to Auto Specialist in Aberdeen and he could find no fault with Auto box

Just had diff changed and seemed to be about 80% better than before, but have ran the car for approx 45 miles and it's coming back much the same as before.

When the car is first started from cold nothing much at all, but when heated up and at running temp, when engaged into Drive engagement is harsh, and when engaged into Reverse harsher still. Am running out of ideas as I have very limited mechanical experience and only had old Stag since June, so very much on a learning curve

    Hi,

is the idle speed set too high ?

My Stag's an auto and tends to do this when on choke as the idle revs are then high.

Can't remember what the recomended idle speed is but probably around 600 rpm off choke and engine warmed up.

It may be that the carbs need setting up and are idling too high as a result of poor balance or mixture set up.

    Hope this helps.

    Andy.

Andy just had carbs and timing set up and she is idling at about 600 / 50 RPM so don't think that this is the problem. Problem we have up here is that there are no auto gurus locally here, but thanks for reply

        Ok so moving on,

idle ok, auto box checked ok so could be a drive train issue.

I guess some of this was checked out during the diff change but if not may be worth checking prop shaft universal joints, pinion flange splines and drive shafts for any slack..

The BW65 box is not the smoothest in the World, and nowhere near as good as a decent modern Auto. Mine has always "snatched" in either Reverse or Drive - particularly with the choke out increasing engine revs above normal idle speed. When warmed up it is a little smoother but nowhere near perfect and I have just learned to live with it.

I see you say that yours is smoother once your motor has warmed up. Unfortunately mine is the opposite, once she reaches normal working temperature it gets worse.

I think that I'm going to have to change UJ's next and just keep working through the transmission until everything is stiffened up again
