Sounds like the kick-down cable needs adjustment, does the box change up smoothly and quickly at low rpm and does it kick-down a gear if the throttle is pushed to the floor?

If it does neither of the above very well then you need to drain the oil and adjust the kick-down cable an added benefit is the new oil will help matters as well.

I had the same problem and did all the adjustments, butnone of them made any difference.

A few months latter I changed the throttle cable because it wasa bit worn and, magic the gearbox was now OK.

All I can think is that although it seemed ok I think it was just keeping the revs up a bit andthis caused it to clunk when changing down.

      Hope this helps

They do clunk a quite a bit but usually when you first engage D or R, up and down shifts should be smooth, in addition to the advice already given check for wear in the UJs (prop and shafts) just in case.

The kick down works fine although moving up from 2nd to D is a tad slow. But thanks for the advice will give it all a go.

Hi Perthammer my box is a little slow changing from 2nd to D and plan to carry out cable adjustments this week so will let you know if it helps.

Just for interest my box changes from 2nd to D at 3000rpm but should change a lot lower than this, is yours the same?

On another matter how does the Stag cope with weather in Australia? Have had to modify yours in anyway?
