county oil pumps anyone had recent problems

Gent's anyone recently fitted the oil pumps supplied by Paddocks and Rimmers, they both seem to be County parts and I belive that there were some failure issues with these County pumps, but this may have been down to a bad batch, any updates from you guys

I have heard bad stories about County parts so best to avoid...

A friend of mine refurbished both heads and at the same time renewed his timing gear with county parts from a well known supplier...after 200 miles the crank shaft sprocket he renewed striped it`s teeth.. well you can imagine the rest..

I would buy a replacement from E J Wards Tony Harts etc

It's pretty hard to avoid County parts. There's hardly any alternates left. All the suppliers I contacted are now only supplying County pistons (Made in India). I've had mixed reviews of these. They certainly have some weight differences 3.4 grams in my case. Other's have told me that they work fine. I'm not too worried as Stags originally had different grade pistons installed (depending on the final bore measurements) and the weight difference between the different grades was significant and I can always balance them.

Well good question. In essence I suppose - Are County parts any worse than OE parts? If they really are that bad we're in big trouble! Perhaps I just don't want to hear this as there will be a ship load in the engine I'm rebuilding!:?

I have just fitted a replacement oil pump. it was by County as this was the only one available new -I spoke to both Simon at Robsport and Peter at LDparts and they both said these were all thats available new. The problemI had was the pressure releif valve spring was too strong - to cut a long story short i ended up fitting an old spring that Robsport sent to me. There was certainly no problem with the pump supplying plenty of oil to the engine!!!!

The quality of the pump was on par for a pattern part - andI did strip it down to examine it before fitting. Only done around 500miles with it so far (fast motorway miles) so can't give a long term reliability report but have no reason to think that it will fail.

Posted on the other oil pump thread:

I see from their advert in Practical Classics that TD Fitchett are selling 'Service Exchange Oil Pumps' for the Stag, TR7 and Dolly for £22-50.

              Anyone got experience of these?

I weighed my new oneson digital kitchen scalesand they werespot on and repeatable to the nearest gram. But agree that County parts are often all thats available now from any supplier.

Gent's fitted new county oil pump at the weekend. I did however remove the old spring from pressure relief valve and fit it on the new oil pump, as the new spring was about 30mm bigger than my old one.

Once fitted I fired the old beast up and correct pressure was there, well chuffed.

Only problem was that the leak was still there and on closer examination it was coming from dried up seals in the pressure indicatorhousing. Replaced seals and all working well now, no more oil leaks ( fingers crossed)
