    water in the "V"

    Hi,

Seem to have a pool of water in the V, car been stood about a week and pool under car as well - dried off water and tried to see where it was coming from - Front of engine but cannot see without removing airfilter and carbs etc.. - water will trickle out into the V if you squeeze the top radiator pipe - is it likely to be the the water pump? or is it the manifold ? or both without taking it to pieces any ideas -

Seems like the winter time rebuild

Doesn't take long to get filter and carbs off. Get a good idea of where it's coming from then. Found most of the water in mine was just a leaking hose.

Top hose appears fine - no water leaks - as suggested will take filter and carbs off and see whats going on..

Mine had a small leak in to the V when it was hot. This was one end of the "U" shaped hose under the carb on minewhich I hadn't changed sinceI bought it. Looked perfectly OK from the top and onlyfound it when I actually took the hose off..

Hmnn hope you find it when you remove the air filter Steve butthats just howmine happened, couldnt see it even with the filter off but was told to expect 10 years from a water pump seal which is exactly how long mine lasted. Coolant appeared in the vee on mine as fast asI topped up the system so it was a serious leak but with the inlet manifold in place it was still difficult to see where it was coming from, small mirror on a stalk may be useful.

              Good luck

                Hi Steve

It wont be the pump as it leaks when engine is normally running. It is going to be a hose or core plug. My betting it will be a loose jubilee clip.

                Good luck

Have to disagree Andrew, mine pi**ed out from the water pump seal when the engine wasent running, hope its not the pump though Steve.

                              Hi Colin (Rare1)

Welcome to the forum .You may be safer posting personal info like your address as a private message (PM) to one person especially as you will have a nice shinny stag parked there soon,You never know who is reading this.2 stags were stolen in Surrey recently.Just a thought ,Didn't want to worry you but thought it worth mentioning .You can edit out your address if you're worried now.

                              Enjoy your new toy Steve
