    Lop sided rear end

    Hi all,

For some time now I have noticed that the offside rear of my Stag sits a bit lower than the nearside, so I'm hopingto remedy this as one of my winter projects. I'm assuming thisis probablydue to the car only having the driver in it most of the time so the extra weight on the offside has made the suspension on that side a bit more "tired".

Would this be a logical explanation, and is it a common problem? I'm thinking of just replacing the rear springs and shocks and all will be straight and level again.

By the way the car looks OK from the front, so I'm not planning on overhauling the front springs at present.

    Cheers,

    Bob.

Battery, driver & fuel tank all on the off side.

Not the best design for a UK spec car!

      Hi Bob

I would replace the springs and shocks but would also check the sub frame outer bush just in case it has seized in the up position:shock:.

I have seen this happen before and one of the tell tale signs is if the floor pan is buckled where the anti vibration strap bolts to the floor.

You don't say how much lower one side is to the other, however, if the outer bush is okay, it may be the spring insulators between the spring to body and spring to trailing arms have deteriorated on one side.

For a cheap fix, pull the springs out, compare them for length, replace the insulaors on both sides, and replace with the longer spring on the drivers side. Should take you about half an hour.

          regards,

          Raoul

It's only lower by about 1 - 1.5 inches, nothing horrendous. I like the look of the cheap fix option so will start there when I get round to investigating.

            Cheers,

            Bob.

If its a worn spring, then I would just swap them round for free and if it works, you know that one of the springs is tired but its level
