    My new favourite colour !

Got the car back from the Big Dipper yesterday - quel surpris as they say in Spain !

It's now a lovely shade of Steel Grey - see pics - and I'm just wondering what colour to paint it.............

OK you white Stag guys - don't get excited - OF COURSE it's going back to its original colour - and the best they ever made - Tahiti Blue !

If anyone needs their peas strained meantime, it'll work really well as a colander.

Generally, pretty pleased with overall condition, but we're talking about a new floorpan, four new wings and a couple of inner arches, one door skin and a few tailor made patches !

I can say it was a joy to crawl over a clean steel shell, rather than the oily mess I sent off, whose favourite trick was to shower me with rust every time I freed off another clapped out component on the underbody. It's onwards and upwards from here !

Here are two or three pics for interest.

That looks very thoroughly stripped, seems like they made a good job of it. Where was it done?

Here's a shot of the botched restoration from 20 years ago - note the delightful pop rivet holes on a previous wing repair - we're going for proper cut and weld this time !

I'll know when I get the bill Brian ! My good pal who is helping me avoid major cock-ups and works in the restoration game, took it down South somewhere - I'll let you know. I was very impressed with the condition, despite the problems now highlighted ! They are no surprise and that's obviouslym why we do the acid process. I'm going for repairs to all metalwork and then redip and bath in something-phosphorate for future rustproffing, so let's see how we get on.

Bless it's old socks, and bless you for taking it on, a few years ago, when Stags were worth less than they are now, your old darling would have found it's way into the crusher. Keep 'em flying I say ! Martin.

Brian - having now paid the bill (:shock I can confirm it was Surface Processing Ltd in Dudley, West Midlands. Do you know them ? It was indeed a good job, but pretty pricey.

Very impressive. I considered doing that dipping on my car but the price put me off plus the good condition of the shell did not really warrant it.

Good luck with the rebuild. Keep us all informed.

                    Regards

It removes everything except thesteel. Rust, bodyfiller, fibreglass, lead loading etc are all disolved.

It does look great in the flesh, but any compliment from an Ozzie is always to be treasured !

Biggest shock is the likely price of sorting out all the body issues to make it perfect (which I am aiming for). Hard to make a business case for it as they say............

Thanks Richard. I've heard of this firm but have not used them - yet! I think it was in Practical Clssics that I read about them. I'm hoping to rebuild my Stag in about 18 months time and this certainly seems the way to go!

                              Hi Brian

Start saving your pennies now then:shock:I keep purchasing bits for my rebuild but the appearance of the car does not seem to change:?Keerching!!!

What will you use as your daily driver whilst the Stag is in bits? The 2500 perhaps?

                              Cheers
