    Leaking fuel hose union

    Hi all,

I noticed fuel dripping onto the nearside exhaust pipeunderneath the car by the side of the gearbox this morning which was rather startling, so hurredly parked up and switched off! Had a busy day so just had time to investigate it quickly before it got too dark and having discounted carb overflow which was my firstthought I discovered that it was leaking from the other end of the rubber pipe that is attached to the fuel filter and runs along the inner wing and down the bulkhead. There seems to be a union just as it disappears under the car.

It was difficult to see without jacking up the car so can someone tell me whether this union is where the rubber pipe joins to a metal one? I'm hoping this will be a quick fix with a new rubber pipe and jubilee clip.

    Cheers,

    Bob.

HI,i had a similar incident iast year, the 'p' clip fell off (unknown to me!)the side of the gearbox tunnel onto the propshaft wearing a hole into the flexible pipe, leaking fuel out!!:? apparentley the thing to do is to have one flexi pipe all the way, getting rid of the unions(although i'am certainly no expert,so i stand to be corrected by ones in the know!).i actually did the quick fix route....i replaced the union by using 2 jubille clips and the slightly larger rubber hose to join together! still like that now-over a year later.regards,Dale

      Hi Dale,

P clip? Not sure what one of those is! Hopefully I can get underneath tomorrow for a closer lookand maybe I have suffered the same failure. Good old fashioned jubilee clip sounds like it might be the answer if the hose hasn't perished and needs replacing.

      Cheers,

      Bob.

P clips are used to secure the pipe to the body - its a strip of metal that is bent to resemble the letter P in profile, the 'eye' of the P wraps round the pipe, and the leg of the P is drilled to allow it to be screwed or bolted to the body........

Ah yes I know what you mean now! No time to look at it today, so hopefully next weekend....

          Cheers,

          Bob.
