    unleaded heads

hi , do any one of the members in kent , know of any firms local , that can modify my cylinder heads to run on unleaded , i am rebuilding my stag engine , and when i laid the car up sixteen years ago you could still buy unleaded at the pumps ,.

is it better to have the heads modified or just add additive as you fill up . i would be greatfull for any advice .

    regards andy

Stags can all run on unleaded as they were built from newwith hardened valve seats set into the alloy heads.

Hi Andy, if you're re-building your engine, you can make it unleaded friendly yourselfby changing the exhaust valves to TR7 ones, the seats and inlet valvesare OK, but the exhaust valves themselves can recess. Martin.

I wouldn't use E10 in a lawnmower myself, I lent myStag to a mate of mine who was staying with us from the UK, he refilled the tank for me as a thank you, unfortunately it was with E10,it ran like crap. Personally I use the highest octane fuel I can get.

All you need to do is replace the exhaust valves with stainless ones (as mentioned, the TR7 ones will be fine).

You can check this by applying a magnet to them; if they are stainless, then the magnet will not stick.

It's very easy to grind them in.

They are readily available from Wards, Paddocks, etc.

Yes, i use the premium stuff plus a squirt of valve saver lead substitute.

I read allot of stuff on E10 including rubber disintegrating so with the strommies figured best not to bother!

Talking of lawn mowers i did run the ride on itfor a while, ran ok but would always ran on when you switched it off or backfire very loudly when shut down. It now blows a bit of blue smoke when started and a quick compression test suggests i might have done a valve in one of the cylinders little V2 engine Love the V configuration:dude:

                        check for balls ups ,
Alway used to be Exhaust were larger.

Look down the casting hole in the head where the inlet manifold connects in what would be the V and you should be able to see the valve guide, the valve slides up and down in here and if it is the small valve that fits they are your inlet valves
