    Empty Brake Fluid Reservoir

    Evening All,

Decided to make the most of the sunshine today but seemed to have acquired a wee problem.

The brakes had a lot of travel so thought I should have a look to find no fluid in the front half of the reservoir.

Is this reserved for the front brake circuit and should I start my investigation there or should I be looking at something ore sinister? The back half has plenty of fluid and apart from a small leak around the brake pressure switch there are no obvious leaks in the engine bay - I haven't looked elsewhere yet.

Mrs R decided that today was not the day to investigate so instead we sat on the M25 going nowhere fast!

    Cheers
    Phil

    Phil,

Front half of the resevoir feeds the rear brakes. I would guess a slave cylinder has leaked.

      Hi Phil

Check the rear brake cylinders if OK and no leaks then get a new Master cylinder job done in around 1 hour.

        Thanks Guys,

Hopefully its the slave cylinder as no obvious signs off leaking in the engine bay.

The drums needed replacing anyway as I suspect they have ovaled so looks like time for an overhaul.

        Cheers

Following on from this post a few weeks go, I have replaced both rear cylinders but am now having trouble bleeding them.

There is no fluid getting to the off side rear cylinder. I have tried using a Gunson Ezi Bleed to force what I thought was air through the system but even when i take the hose off the cylinder, nothing is getting through.

Any ideas as before I go dismantling hoses, I wondered if there was something obvious I am missing (e.g. master cylinder).

Just as I was about to give up today, the brakes gave a loud sigh and it looks like it was an air lock that finally gave way - who says some jobs are easy! but at least I think I'm sorted now
