    Non Stop Wipers !

    I need help !

I am at my wits end with my wipers that will not switch off. On original motor the nylon ferrule on the switch broke when I put the nylon slide in the wrong way round ! Got new motor assy fitted it and hey presto non sto wipers. Have checked and looked at it several times, sometimes I think its cured and then they start again.

Am I missing something, only thing I can notice is the cross head does seem to move a bit when they are on but I cannot stop it so they may all do that ??

Any advice on what could be wrong appreciated before I shoot myself !

    Hi Martin

    This is not uncommon.

If the white nylon block is not broken, then it will be adjustment and just under the motor are 2 small cross headed screws that allows the white nylon block to be slid along to adjust the cut off. You just undo the motor clamp that has the rubber underlay and turn motor on its side and whilst the wipers are in motion, undo the screws slightly and slide the block along until they stop and then just a shim more. The tighten screws and that should fix the problem.

Could possibly be the relay also which is behind the parcel shelf on the relay board but I would look at this adjustment first.

    Good luck, Andrew

        Andrew,

Tried moving switch but I cannot get wipers to work at all now ! Checked fuse but this is fine. On the relay I checked this and it is making a "pinging" noise ? Could this be the problem ??

The block needs to be pulled back the other way as the travel is too far and its cutting off too early. It is a very fine adjustment but when set, that's its.

Could you have pulled the wiring loom plug out of partly out of the motor or maybe yo took the wiper motor earth strap off the bodywork?

Hi Martin,i had the same problem recently and found the cover plate to be bowed, where the drive cable enters the unit.A small amount of the hammer to flatten it cured it.the reason was it would not hold down the slide block so it didn't operate the switch.best of luck Colin.

                    Andrew & Colin,

Just sorted out the problem ! Adjusting the block did it and also the top plate was little bowed so I have flattened this and all seems to work !

                    Thanks both for help.

I would agree, the forum is invaluable for this sort of info as someone usually has been through the same problem at some point during Stag ownership. As I am not technically minded, just love driving the Stag, it really is a help to me.

Saying that sometimes with some requests you think "Am I being a bit stupid here?" but I am very appreciative of the help !
