Alternator problem ingnition light glows brightly

Gent's just before I bought this car in June it was fitted with a new alternator which I have the reciept for.

Unfortunately I sent it to a local garage for service and told them to check any wires around the alternator.

When I recieved it back I noticed that the ignition light glows brighter as the revs are increased, although the multimeter indicates 13.9 to 14 vlts. This is on par with the dash mounted vlt indicator

The garage denied that it was their fault of course and the garage in Durham who fitted it really did not want to know

    Hi,

it sounds as if the alternator is giving output. Turn on the head lights and gently rev the engine. The head lights should get brighter with as the revs are initally raised.

If this works and with the voltage reading your getting it looks as though the altanator is working all be it with a possible fault in the ignition warning circuit.

I think the warning light is earthed through the alternator so you will need to establish if the unit is internally faulty or indeed if the garage made an error with the wiring.

it's a shame their not being more helpful. I guess you could get advice from trading standards. I've found them helpful in the past. Maybe time to find a new garage..

If this is no help someone on here will know the answer..

    Andy.
