Hi Guys,
Looking for some open and honest advice on carpet suppliers, type and replacement. Hopefully reducing the risk in purchasing and shipping an "Off the Shelf" carpet kit from the UK to Australia, or anywhere else for other members. Being based in Australia I am limited on being able to review product fit and material samples. The distance also limits any recourse if things don't work out.
I have had a look around the Stag digest (s) and supplier web sites and have found a few UK based suppliers. Aldridge Trimming Co, regularly appears as a credible supplier and Rimmers as a "thrifty" supplier and other reference to Coverdale UK Ltd.
Keen to know if anyone has purchased an "Off the Shelf" carpet kit and how they went installing it. Did it require any trimming or modifications or trips back to the supplier? Or was it a total Perfect Match, leaving them you with a professional result.
Also I have found there are various weaves and materials from synthetic to Wool. Would appreciate any tips and feedback here as to the feel, durability and clean-ability of the different fabrics and weaves.
Another big factor is the cost of freighting. This this is typically not controlled by the suppliers, but I have found it can be a considerable overhead cost. For both cabin and boot carpets I have been quoted GBP250 from the UK to Australia. More than the carpet itself. So I am also looking into freight options, maybe sea vs. air.
My other option is to have the carpet custom supplied and installed by a local trimer. This works out to be around A$600, with them doing the installation. They can not do moulded, nor do they have the standard cuts and forms, but I suspect this has been the most likely choice in the past.
I had found two other carpet related topics and posted this question there, with little response, so thought I would try a new Post. Would greatly appreciate anyone sharing their experiences of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, to help me and others in the selection process.
Thanks,
Joe,
Sydney Australia.
