Replacement Carpet - Selection and Supplier

    Hi Guys,

Looking for some open and honest advice on carpet suppliers, type and replacement. Hopefully reducing the risk in purchasing and shipping an "Off the Shelf" carpet kit from the UK to Australia, or anywhere else for other members. Being based in Australia I am limited on being able to review product fit and material samples. The distance also limits any recourse if things don't work out.

I have had a look around the Stag digest (s) and supplier web sites and have found a few UK based suppliers. Aldridge Trimming Co, regularly appears as a credible supplier and Rimmers as a "thrifty" supplier and other reference to Coverdale UK Ltd.

Keen to know if anyone has purchased an "Off the Shelf" carpet kit and how they went installing it. Did it require any trimming or modifications or trips back to the supplier? Or was it a total Perfect Match, leaving them you with a professional result.

Also I have found there are various weaves and materials from synthetic to Wool. Would appreciate any tips and feedback here as to the feel, durability and clean-ability of the different fabrics and weaves.

Another big factor is the cost of freighting. This this is typically not controlled by the suppliers, but I have found it can be a considerable overhead cost. For both cabin and boot carpets I have been quoted GBP250 from the UK to Australia. More than the carpet itself. So I am also looking into freight options, maybe sea vs. air.

My other option is to have the carpet custom supplied and installed by a local trimer. This works out to be around A$600, with them doing the installation. They can not do moulded, nor do they have the standard cuts and forms, but I suspect this has been the most likely choice in the past.

I had found two other carpet related topics and posted this question there, with little response, so thought I would try a new Post. Would greatly appreciate anyone sharing their experiences of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly, to help me and others in the selection process.

    Thanks,
    Joe,
    Sydney Australia.

Your search starts and stops here in my opinion:

    http://www.aldridge.co.uk/

Most of the Stag suppliers source from Aldridge anyway.

I have there wool carpet kit both cabin and boot and its top quality and fits perfectly.

Also I have their rear cubby panels, indistinguishable from the OEM.

      Hello Joe,

      Welcome to the Forum.

I went for A complete Rimmers Leather kit including boot and cabin carpets.

The carpetshave still not been fitted, the leather kit so far has gone on pretty well.

I have trial fitted the the wool cabin carpets and think i wouldn't have bothered the fit is OKbut not perfect. the seat runner Moulded sections are not moulded just sewn. The main carpets have a heal mat with triumph logo on them, the edges of the carpets are not finished in my opinion they are just folded roundand glued which seems to be the spray stuff and its coming away already this then creates the finished edge.

The boot carpet is tufted and again not fitted but i have investigated the fit, you will need to order the backing cards for the carpet to be bonded too as they are not supplied. The main boot mat has no eyelets for the twist locks and to me it seems massively big. It actually forms round the arches and back of the seat panel verywell but it flaps up the rear panel by about 6 inches i don't understand why? the edge of the mat is finished with a binding so properly finished.

Unless of course this is how they should be

I would probably go for a home brew solution and have them made locally. The postage is a big factor getting larger stuff out here. I was going to order a T BAR foam set from Graham at PADDOCKS but the post was going to be 68 pounds and the item is 60 pounds. (Paddocks always work out to be cheapest onpost and try not to make you pay for thin air),so have made one and all looks great for about $50.

      Good Luck

was this the std rimmers carpet or the "luxury" wool version?

I have the wool version in my garage from last years "Sale", I haven't taken it out of the packet yet.

I treated myself to a set of Beige carpets from Aldridge.

They are first class, easy to fit and the integral rubber heel mat has the "Triumph" decal included. You really can't go wrong, and no need for expensive trimming company to fit it for you. Give yourself a day to do it and you'll be fine.

                  Hi John

If the carpets are around a year old, rather than bin them , please could you let me have them collected and returned to our supplier along with your thoughts on them?

We do sell a lot of these sets and I would rather we got it right than have unhappy customers throw them away. My email address is am@rimmerbros.co.uk for the collection address details

                  Kind regards

                  Andy

Yes Andy as Graham said an excellent approach better than the last time I contacted you company to say I was unhappy with one of your products that time I was told to shop elsewhere

                        Hello Andy,

Perhaps you could explain my predicament with your wool carpet set, the bonded edges that are simply folded 180 deg back on themselves are all coming unstuck and the set has not even been fitted. This complete set was purchased last Christmas in your sale also.

Also why is the boot mat so large as i mentioned further up the post it fits round the arches and seat steel back but has a six inch flap that has to be folded up the light board? Any ideas? Or have i missed the blindingly obvious ( my specialty)

Sorry cant pop in to show you as we are 12000 miles away:shock:

                        Regards Pommie Nige'
