    alloy header tanks

    Hello everybody,

I have a header tank installed just to test this method of having more coolant. The problem is, that it is a Volkswagen header tank (!). Of course this looks a bit out of place. So I am planning to buy an alloy header tank, which goes nicely around the lhs. strut (see pic) and has one thick and minimum one thin inlet resp. one thick outlet. Funnily enough these alloy header tanks are not made in my country, but almost exclusively in the UK - mostly for Cosworth Fords.

What is the cheapest quote you can get for these tanks. Do they come with high pressure, bayonet type metal caps, too?

Chromed plastic tanks would not really be my option.

    Kind regards, Dieter.

    Hi Dieter,

It seems that EJ Ward are working along the same lines according to their advert in this month's SOC magazine. No details on their website yet.

        @ Mike:

This looks like a winter project - as a punishment for somebody who has killed Mum and Dad. Or on second thoughts I might put on American Racing wheels "Ansen Sprint" (see pic). They are in size 7x15, however. Let us see, if German MOT agrees.

        @ Dave and others:

Does anybody know how much E.J. Ward id going to charge for those header tanks? I am asking because very similar alloy tanks are on offer for about GBP 150.00. Those are made for Ford Cosworth cars.

        Kind regards, Dieter.

I have tried phoning E J Ward all this week for a possible priceand have either been engaged or answerphone. They do state in the mag that they are trying to improve the current tank so a definite price may not yet be available. Some kit car manufacturers have sold similar on e bay for around £45.

            Hello Jeff,

GBP 45.00 would be great. The header tank, which you see in the pic above, is 150.00 "buy now price" on eBay already. If you know of a better offer, please let me know.

            Kind regards, Dieter.

              Dieter,

This is all they say in their advert...........

No mention of a level switch.

I think that the level switch is vital. The early warning gives peace of mind.

That is the Dog' Nuts and a level sensor too. So i did a quote to get 2 picture in the thread

I note it is plumbed into the top Hose? and the existing overflow? Working well i presume? your motor is hevely modiifed if i am think of the correct car? Seem so simple doing this way.

I have been looking at the alloy tanks, but as mentioned the level sensor is an absolute must. I have not seen any alloy units with sensor switching. The Cossie looks like it fits nice around the turret, only problem i have is the air conditioner dryer sit here on mine so i will have to go with a unit arounf the fuse box area.

A shot before I had it anodised:

Yes having a float switch is a must, as the switch will indicate a water loss before you loose water from the top hose.

Having a sight glass is handy too.

I've had a turret mounted header tank since 86, a long time, back then before I fitted a turret mounted tank I had problems with water loss and leaking plastic bottle tops, all these problems disappeared overnight.

Different owners plumb their tanks differently, all achieve the same result, a head of water above the water pump and top hose which is what you want

                        Hi Dieter,

Header tanks still on e bay but more than the £45 I quoted.

                        E J Ward are estimating around £100.

                          Hello Jeff,

Is E.J. Ward ready to put those alloy header tanks on the market? If so, at what price?

I wrote them an email, but never received a reply.

                          Kind regards,

                          Dieter.
