Interior Lights Again

Quick Question, sorry to ask, did a search and got very confused:?

If i open passenger door do both console lights com on?

If i open drivers door do both console lights come on?

Head scratching in Australia


update i have Mk1 Wiring in passenger door and Mk 2 in drivers

The main looms in car are Mk2, but the passenger door has been plugged into the Mk2 loom will this affect the lamps. trying to read the ROM mk1 and compare to previous threads! my head is hurting

I'm pretty sure only the light on the side the door is opened comes on. they both come on with the switch on the centre console.

So when you open the passenger door only the console light on that side comes on together with the puddle lamp and interior light. At least thats what they do on my mk1.

The wiring in the door itself should make no difference. its the wiring in the door switch in the door pillar and the centre console switch that control it all.

On my car,one console light, the door puddle lamp and the roll bar interior light illuminate when a door is opened. If I use the interior light switch, both console lights and the roll bar interior light illuminates.

thanks chaps for the replies. i have sused it out. In a previous life the wiring to the passenger door has become spliced by the the door stay.

A quality repair has then been carried out soldered back together then heat shrink sleeving used on all cables, so far so good and not a bad job. The repair was then poked into the door but not far enough the grommet has been broken on reinsertion and on of the repaired wires has eventually worn through to touch the door skin, thus causing a ground. After rectification all is well. Exactly as it should be
