My wife and I ,plus 3 other couples, are heading over to England for the NEC and I was wondering what are the laws re the use of cel phones,by the driver,whilst mobile.

Here in Canada a law that prohibits hand held cel phone use,by the driver,has just come into effect.

Hi, My brother was caught using his mobile whilst driving.

He was given 2 options.

1. Pay a fine and points on his licence.

2. To go to a days course ( somewhere far and inconvenient ) and get lectured on safe driving,etc,etc.......

He opted fornumber 2 since he already had points. He had to book a days leave from work................serves him right. Mobile phones and driving don't go hand in hand, recently a memberwas almost run off the road and into the river due to a driver talking on his cell phone.( I was more worried about his Stag then him )

use of mobile phone by driver whilst mobile is illegal. also do not use at traffic lights whilst stationary. if you must use, or answer, then find a place to pull over safely

Take a look at clause 149 in this link http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAn...code/DG_070309

Basically, you shouldn't use a hand-held mobile while driving, but handsfree kits are OK.

I have one of those blue tooth ear things but do not really like it so i will probably bring the blackberry visor speaker that is sitting on my desk

If you use a phone whiist driving, it must be held in a cradle. I use a cradle and a Bluetooth headset with no problem. To me its no more distracting than changing a CD or changing radio stations whislt driving.:P

Interestingly, that doesn't mean that changing CD/radio stations SatNavis automatically OK......... I think the wording is something along the lines of:

'exercise proper control of your vehicle at all times'

.......so if you are short on manual dexterityyou may not be in 'proper control' while doing all manner of things in your car !!

Dave - With a Handsfree kit you shouldn't fall foul of the Police
