What books do Forum Members like to Read?

The recent Mana thread makes reference to one of Dan Browns novels.
I too have read Dan Brown, but for good fictional stories my first choice would be Lee Child or David Baldacci.
I also have a considerable collection of George Simenon "Maigret" novels and quite a few Ed McBain "87th Precinct" stories.
I also like Colin Dexter (Morse stories), and have read most of James Pattersons novels but have grown tired of him now.

What books appeal to other Stag Forum members?

Due to my wifes fasination with horror mystery and gore I tend to read cast offs from Stephen King, Dean Kuntz, etc. She is off to see Saw 6 tomorrow:shock:, I'am off to a TSSC meet

I've just finished Winston Churchill's account of the Second World War which was a great read. Am now on The Secret History of the World by Jonathan Black aka Mark Booth (eye opening). Fancy reading HG Wells' War of the Worlds soon. Seem's I've gone global for some reason.

Terry - Read - do you have time to read? What with driving the Stag (occassionally), cleaning the Stag (at least as often), repairing the Stag (nearly as often) and looking after the Euroboxes, Garden and SWMBO - I hardly have time to sleep - let alone read.

Oh and I forgot - I still have to work as well!

Roll on retirement and proper time to use the Stag, but driving and reading?? Too dangerous.

          Ignore me - I'm only jealous.:P

I read a lot at the Poolside, where you can find me most days. When you are sat by the Pool surrounded by girls & young women wearing nothing but the tiniest of "thongs" you need something to cool you down. You can either bury your head in a good book, or go for a swim. I do both. Additionally you can adjourn to the Bar, drink, and pretend (wish and dream) you were a dashing young single man again. I do this too. As a last resort I tear myself away from the Pool and go and do some work on the Stag.

I have rediscovered Tom Sharpe. My son-in-law lent me them when I said I remembered Henry Wilt. I just finished Riotous Assembly andI laughed a lot.

The Lunatic Express - the crazy story of East Africa and the Mombassa to Lake Victoria Railway. Without doubt my favourite book.

The Lions of Tsavo - they ate more than 100 coolies, but a British Engineer with a gun and a topee eventually got 'em!

Sailing Alone around the world - Captain Joshua Slocum - the first man to do it in a small boat. He started out in one direction got attacked by pirates, after crossing the Atlantic from America. He then reversed direction sailing around the world the other way against the prevailing winds!

Barrows Boys - The search for the NorthWest Passage and the exploration of Western Africa.

The Backroom Boys: The Secret Return of the British Boffin - they aren't dead yet!

All true stories of adventure inovation and courage..

Although I enjoy the occasional novel there are a wealth of amazing true stories that beat them hands down every time... The old ones are the best because unlike pampered modern heros with sat navs, they did it first.

..and The Millionaire Next Door - how to become seriously rich if you read this in your 30's. Wish I had!
