Having been told I had an ineffective mechanical advance and needed to replace my distributor springs I duly bought a pair from the distributor doctor and put them in the glovebox. After a couple of months they hadn't fitted themselves so I popped round to see Martin Stevenson today and we spent a couple of hours swapping them out.
It shouldn't take anything like this long but that assumes you'll remember the correct sequence for putting it all back together and no, the manual didn't help much as I have lumenition but we got there in the end.
The new springs have made far more difference than I expected, the car is much more responsive at higher revs and if a private road had made itself available on the way home I'm sure I'd have hit a ton & 5k RPM for the first time, obviously I wouldn't do that on the public highway!
Thanks again Martin, the pint was good too.
