    carburetor problems ?

I seem to have a problem with my carburetor any advice apreciated.car starts and runs fine from cold.when i restart when still warm after a run it struggles to start.it seems to be overchoking ? and struggles to rev up.when it gets going it seems fine and drives well.i have also noticed fuel leeking from the overflow after a run.The car has had a full engine rebuild after a 10 year layup and covered about 800 miles.

Sounds like the old Stag problem sticking needle valves in the float chamber, remove carbs, remove float chambers and clean and blow out needle valves put it all back together and bingo. This topic always seems to start a debate so let it roll

      Hello,

My Stag showed similar symptoms, when the ignition coil was about to "pass away".

      Kind regards, Dieter.

Hi Andy, everything Peter said except, remove needle valves and place carefully in the bin. Get a pair of new ones and a pair of gaskets and replace, the chances are they're buggered, and it's a pain putting them back to find they still don't work. Good luck. Martin.

I see that Paddocks sell viton tipped needle valves - anyone tried them?

              Hi
Viton tipped needle valves. Yes I got mine from Burlen fuels. No doubt the specification for not letting by is much better than the standard ones. They are also likely to be original specification, ie not cheap remakes, and I think they are worth while.
              Best,
              Dave

Re flooding when hot. There is another issue which is often overlooked. Namely are the fuel (float) chamber vent valves adjusted properly. This issue has been covered in the forum before and there is a section in the ROM describing how to do it. If the vent valve is not adjusted properly and prevents venting of the float chamber then when the engine is hot the fuel in the chamber vaporises and pushes the fuel up the jet into the manifold
For the whole thread on the float chamber vent valves and the link to the relevant section of the ROM just search 'float chamber vent valve'

I used white spirit and an old tooth brush. It got all the crud off quite nicely.

I saw this and thought "what about using an ultrasonic cleaner?" I had a look online and found a company that offers a carb cleaning service HEREI have no connection nor have I used them.

                        Hello,

I can recommend a product called "Tickopur TR3" to be used in ultrasonic cleaners, but with a brush as well. You can buy it via Fleabay (5 ltrs. for EUR 44.-).

                        Good luck, Dieter.
