Engine Stripping and Rebuild

Hi

Does anyone know of a really good source of information about stripping and rebuilding a Stag engine for the complete novice ? Maybe a DVD , website or book ?

Anyhelp appreciated.

hi

i am doing one at the moment and iits the first bottom end i have done apart from timing chains and water pump.

its all pretty simple really . does the engine turnover by hand as mine was solid, and that will help.

other than that read the repair operation manual or get the little v8 yellow book which came with the car often on ebay.

when i did heads the only bit which i found tricky and farmed out was the tappet shims and skimming of course.

Thanks Big J, someone else recommended that book, I will have to get it.

Mad - No the engine doesnt turn by hand, which is the reason i replaced it, now just fancy stripping it down and seeing what I can do with it.

I have removed one bank of head bolts successfully, just waiting to borrow a crane to mount it on an engine stand now which should be easier. Adapter plate between engine and gear box has been removed and cleaned up - arnt dishwashers fantastic things !!

I will have a look for that little yellow book too

What is this little yellow book? I have a handbook and the ROM but no little yellow book what does it look like?

Just to clarify , the info i require is not just "how to take the engine apart" but more around what should I be looking for while Im doing it, what does a good xxx look like as apposed to a damaged xxx.

So I suppose is more of a "how to and why" guide !

I think im probably asking too much ! lol

A while ago you could get the yellow book from Rimmers...not sure now. Be careful on eBay cause can be expensive.
No different info from theRom, just different pictures??? (Haven't checked both as yet)
