    Upgrade of Healamps to H4

    I like the idea of upgrading the outer headlamps to H4 units so that you can have four main beams on instead of two main and two dipped. I have always thought it is pointless wasting power having the dipped beams on all the time when you could utilise power this to add more light to the main beam.



    The wiring is not difficult as you just need a couple of relays, and some connectors and wire.

    How many others have either done this or thought about it?

      I had this mod on my previous Stag (the Java car that was stolen). 4 main beems are good on unlighted roads but dipped beam is used much of the time. I would rather have 4 dipped as well. I think E.J. Ward do a loom mod kit to give H4 on all 4 lamps

        It must be just me, but i have never had a problem with the stag lights be it on lit or unlit roads, okay they are not up to the level of a modern car; but it's just one of the foibles of driving a 32 year old car.

          I agree Ian ,not high on my wish list, instrument illumination now that's a different matter and yes I've tried all the tricks.

              I've never found my Stag lights to be a problem either, in fact they are excellent. I have the original setup, ie sealed beam dip and halogen main. They are much, much better than the (correctly adjusted) lights on my wife's Passat. Glow worms would do a better job!

                Yes, if you are replacing all four lamps anyway then why not!

                Having said that, I think there may be a legal issue, in theory at least.

                  I have upgraded my headlights to H4's and have all 4 on dip and main beam

                  The mod has really madea difference to night time driving, giving a similar amount of light compered to a modern car

                  I bought the kit from wards, but had to change the wiring loom due to a few issues with the flash, but i now believe that wards havesorted their looms to correct this

                  IMHO a very worthwhile mod

                    I think you will find that if the car was registered before 1983 its ok , I may be a year outone way but I do know its ok on stags

                      I have found this a good mod, and you can also upgrade the H4 bulbs to either 50% or 80% brighter than the original H4 bulb.
