This is the last magazine for the year and as you read this article, we have over a thousand registered members of the club forum which is an awful lot of people. We have a truly global community, with people on night and day and constant praise about how useful and enjoyable the place is. Some people come to have a read, others to solve a problem, and many make a humorous contribution on the way.
Its not just electronic communication either. Just about every month so far this year, we have had our own runs out, with breakfast on a Sunday morning being a popular one, either to a couple of locations in Surrey or down to Goodwood, dependant upon which Sunday in the month it is. There was the summer trip to Brands Hatch and we are planning another Christmas run on the 13th December. Starting from the ACE Café, driving through central London and onto Canary Wharf for a spot of ice skating!!! We have 25 cars signed-up for the Christmas run and it is looking like being a great event – if you fancy going, log-on to the forum as we have put the full details at the top of the first page.
For those that are going, you may even get a sighting of the “king of the green” sporting his colour co-ordinated antlers. Unless it is raining, he will have the hood down on the java “mean machine” (that will also have a Christmas tree with lights in the back!) which is more than can be said for one of the Tahiti drivers, who was delighted to read in the November magazine, that our Chairman has his hard top on for almost as many months of the year as he does..
Throughout the last month, there has been the usual variety of stag posting with some interesting non-stag topics covered. One that caught the eye was about the speed awareness course that saves you 3 points on your licence. There are so many “safety” camera’s about now, that this seems like a very sensible way to make sure you get something useful and practical in return for the tax fine you also have to pay and it saves your licence at the same time. Its worth a read.
Another interesting post is about air boxes some of the members are developing. Apparently, there are benefits ducting the air into a carburettor from outside the engine bay and there are some interesting solutions if you want to have a read about it.
Your knowledge of the qualities and complexities of multi-grade oils would be enhanced by reading the post about Mr Dieter Marschall’s question about the type of oil a garage used in his engine.
The club has a stance of not recommending suppliers and most of the time, the forum is self regulating in regard to the good and bad experiences people have with various garages and suppliers. On a post about what-carpets to buy, one member reported problems with a large suppliers own brand of carpets. The supplier in question has someone who has recently registered on the forum and publicly made contact to find an agreeable way forward.
This is an excellent development and it would be good to see more of the Stag garages and Triumph suppliers registered on the forum, sharing knowledge, sorting problems and indirectly promoting their business through their co-operation and expertise. This is the sort of true collaboration that only the internet can facilitate, so if you advertise in the magazine, why not join-up, say hi to everyone and see where it takes you?
The long-awaited video of the drive to and convoy around Brands Hatch has been posted on you-tube and linked to the forum and Chris V-Mad, who wrote last months article on Weber Carbs and this months article on hoods, has also become a bit of a TV celebrity, driving his Sunbeam Tiger around Brooklands race track on a prime-time TV show!
Don’t forget, you can also email questions and suggestions for articles to us and we will do our best to answer and print them in a later magazine. That way, if you prefer magazines to web-pages, you can access the clubs knowledge base and benefit from the forums knowledge, just with a different response time!
If you don’t already know how, you can access via the SOC web site at http://www.stag.org.uk/index.aspx or if you get stuck or have any questions or suggestions, email me at stagforum@anvuk.com and we can sort something out for you.
We hope to see you on-line soon
