    new stag owner

At last picked up my first stag ( 4oth birthday present to myself) and it didn't dissapoint,(top down motoring on sunday between showers great),been reading the forum for a few days and find the passion and help offered here by other members is unbelievable .

Any advice on timing chains would thereforebe welcome, the car has substantial history but is a bit patchy in places,(car sat in a private collection for 18 years).what i thought was a rather large reciept for timing chain replacement now turns out to be only a quotation (bummer) guess i should have been more thorough at thetime of purchase. i have digestedall the normal info on this subject but for the life of me cannot decide whether i can detect a rattle or not, i can here something maybe a ticking (slightly deaf in 1 ear). will probably get chains replcaced to be on safe side, i am in southampton can anyone recomend somewhere localish to get work done,or even better is there any knowledgeable members near me that would be prepared to listen to car .

    Thanks in advance Mike.

Hi Mike, sorry, I live in Northampton so I can't help, but I did want to welcome you to Stag ownership and to the forum, both are a thing of beauty and a joy forever - except sometimes ! Welcome. Martin.

Hi Mike, welcome to the forum. My Stag was also a 40th birthday present to myself, and I have never rgretted it for one minute! If you are not sure of your timing chains it is probably best to get them done. The previous owner of my car used Southern Triumph Services in Bournemouth a lot but I'm not sure how far away from you this is. Enjoy your Stag!

Thanks Brian, have just also heard some good things about the triumph stag workshop in poole (next door to bournemouth) only about 35 miles for me so will call both tommorow.

          Regards Mike

            Welcome, Mike.

Plenty of enthusiastic Stag owners around the West Sussex/Hampshire/Dorset area, including a few on here who will no doubt point you in the right direction.

Word of warning. Don't get too paranoid aboutyour Stag.

            Enjoy it.

              Hi Mike

Welcome to the loony bin. My Stag was a post heart attack present to myself, but think your reason to be much less painful, and infinitely preferable to mine!

I'm sure someone down your way will point you in the right direction and if not, a pal of mine is a fireman in Eastleigh.....
