This post wont appeal to everyone but for those interested here is the first photo of my Stag getting the Chevy 5.7L all alloy LS1 fitted. The weight is much the same as the standard 3L Stag motor. From what I can tell this is the first time it has been done. It has the BMW LSD and a T700 auto and 4 wheel disc brakes.. More photos to come as it progresses. Spin

To have it passed as legal and driven on the road it has to be inspected by a qualified automotiveengineer (from licensing dept list of Engineers) and permits have to be issued for the modification. So yes, parts of chassis rails, and cross member are strengthened and engine mounts designed to suit. Suspension will also be modified to suit. People havefitted the old small block cast iron 350 Chevy to Stags before and they weighed huge amounts. This will add only about 20lbs to the weight which is negligible. Spin

Hi Spin, I believe there is one in UK, the car's very heavily modified, arches, de-chromed, paint etc. There's a poor pic in the latest mag. It looks as if yours will still look like a Stag, that's certainly a first.

Good choice the LS1, as you say the Iron Chevy has been done many times before, and the alloy Chevy makes perfect sense today.
Keep us posted

Thanks guys. I cant take the credit for this simply because the conversion needs to be done legally andprofessionally and I dont have enough equipment or technical skill to do it properly. I also want it to be built to handle the power. There is surprisingly a lot of room at the top of the engine bay but limited down near the chassis rails and exhaust headers.Visibly theStag will look completely original from the outside, apart from the mag wheels which are 17 inch. I especially wanted to try and not have a bonnet scoop of any kind and with the motor sitting there like that the bonnet closes no problem
. Once all the fitting is done the motor will come out again and I will have the engine bay spray painted. Probably wont be finished till the new year though. Will definitely puta You Tube clip or two up when its ready. I have attached another photo from a different angle. Spin

I guess we're all familiar with the term "Q CAR" that's going to surprise a few folk :dude: :dude: :dude: Martin.

Haven't really thought about a 'name' for it, if I leave the plates standard then it really will be a Q car or sleeper. As beautiful as the standard Stag is I basically got tired of even 'slow' cars over taking me
. The conversion will allow me to take the battery out without having to undo the power steering pump
and I am expecting the fuel economy to be about the same or even better. The drivers side exhaust pipes are a challenge and need to cross to the other side so they can exit to the rear, i am hoping I can still have a really nice V8 burble like the stag motor but I think that has a bit to do with the firing order so that might take a bit of trial and error with mufflers etc to get the right sound. A weak link in the whole project might be the rear wheel drive shafts. If they break I will have to have some custom made to suit but will wait and see what happens. Will get some more photos next week. Spin
