    Battery

    Hi all,

Two days of cold and three weeks of rain and my battery has just given up the ghost:XIt is currently a type 031 with cranking power of 690amps. Is this correct or would you recommend something different with any ideas of what it will cost?

    cheers, Steve

I bought a Yuasa 072 from AllParts Automotive (nearest one to you is Enfield). Plenty of oomph and looks great in the bay of my russet brown :dude:

            Hi Steve

Partco do a Unipart battery which I think are made by Yuasa now,the one I got fits well and has been as good as gold, product code is UGCGBA3072,which cost £60 bar a couple of pence.

Hi David ,yes I now have a type 071 battery fitted made by Bosch but had to shave about 2mm from the end of the casing(there is plenty of excess casing anyway)to make it fit.Previous to this I have had three type 069 batteries that fitted without a problem, fitted the Bosch one for the extra power. The battery harness also fits the type 069 perfectly, but will not fit the type 071.

              cheers Steve

When I bought my Stag earlier this year, it came with a whole sheaf of paperwork, including a receipt for the battery currently fitted. It is a Bosch Silver 60AH (280A EN), and is just short of 10 years old! I had intended replacing it, but a garage-owning friend of mine said that battery quality was better back then, and if it's not broke don't fix it! I do know that it was connected to a battery conditioner/charger for long periods and only actually drove 28 milesin the previous 3 years, and it helps that my engine springs into life just as soon as you touch the key, with no cranking. The starter is alwaysvery lively, even onthe frosty morning we encountered in North Devon in October this year.

Just wondered how unusual this is, batteryage-wise.

                  Hi Dakman,

My battery has been connected to a conditioner when the car is not in use since I got the car in May 2007 but I suspect it was already on its way out. From my file I can see that the battery was new in August 1997 so 12 years old. Not to bad in my opinion.

On the subject of batteries has anyone put the battery in the hoodwell?

Everytime I look at my battery it occurs to me that not only do you have to move the power steering pump to change the battery but in the dreaded event of a front end shunt the battery is perfectly placed to change an unfortunate accident into a flaming disaster when shorted out by crumpled metalwork . My only worry is will acid fumes be released into the hoodwell and ruin the hood

I usually just buy the most powerful battery I can get in terms of cranking amps, that will allow me to fit it without removing the pump. I think the one in it at the moment manages 380 cold cranking amps. Starts the car fine even in cold weather. I did this even many years ago when it was my daily driver. Its never given me a problem.

                          Hi Dave

Thanks for the link I must have missed this topic when it came up .Apart from those who don't understand whyanyone would consider moving the battery to a safer placewith better weight distribution and ease of axis those who have done it seem happy with the mod. I can't decide(still worried about acid fumes damaging the hood)Maybe I'll just have to try . Will keep you posted
