Classic Radio with modern internals and mp3 connection

I would like to update the in car entertainment in my Stag.
I've seen car radios from the period that have been converted to FM with an MP3 connector (all my CDs have been copied).
Has anyone had any experience with one of these?
If they don't fit the bill are there any modern ICE models that don't ruin the interior look of the car?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Frank

like you I thought it would be a good idea to have modern upto date workings inan old period facing

I contacted the vintage wireless company and the quote I had would have allowed me to have a top end home entertainment system so I deleted the email as I have a limited budget

I am hoping for a modern CD/Radio from Halfords which is on my xmas list

I've a modern Blaupunkt, that has two chrome knobs... so sort of retro!

But packs sat nav, handsfree mobile, MP3 via USB, bluetooth audio, ah, also CD & Radio!

Have you had a look at the Retrosound Model One - you can get them through Moss Europe - seems to do everything apart from sat nav.
I'm just about to fit one c/w one of their dual coil dash speakers.

          Hi there,
Thanks for your reply. I'll check it out.
However, I'm tempted by the Retrosound Model One that's being fitted by Froggyhollow who's also replied.
          Regards

Anyone checked out Secret Audio out of the US.

I'm thinking of going this route with headrest mounted speakers- as there's no decent spots for (front) speakers in a Stag. I'd kill the b@#$%^&d who wrecked the doors to install front door speakers on my car.

Thought you might like to know - I've just about completed the installation of the Retrosound Model One radio - just the choke warning light switch to replace (I noticed that it was missing while I've had the radio out) & I can then slide the radio into place. Its all working sat on the passenger seat & so far I think that it is very good - not finished setting up the radio for european use yet but it sees to be fine on FM.

I also fitted a dual coil Retrosound speaker into the dash - bit of a tight fit to get it in but I am impressed with the results - it sounds very good - at the same time I've fitted a pair of 5.25" Nakamichi speakers in the rear cubbies.

Has any manufacturer produced a car stereo that has internal storage for mp3's? Wouldn't it be good to have all of your music on tap in the car and not have to plug in your ipod etc to get it to work. You can be sure you will forget to take it sometime and really want to listen to 'that' song when you are cruising down the road with the top down!

I saw on the argos clearance site that a minestryofsound radio CD player for the car also had an USB socket for your ipod/MP3 player plus a card slot reader just down load all your tracks onto a card and leave it in the player which is going to get as close to your request as I can see

The Retrosound radio I have fitted has a USB port for a flashdrive & has the ability to play 999 tracks on the flashdrive - the USB port is on a fly lead that you can pass into the glove box - its not internal storeage but the ability to have virtually a thousand songs on tap is good enough for me. Very easy to swop the flashdrive so potentially as many tracks as you like.
You can also plug an MP3 player into the front Aux jack.

My Shogun has a 30Gb HDD system, it also stores the Navigation data, when I play a CD it records it so I don't have to use the CD again.

My Audi TT had a "phatnoise" box instead of a cd changer and was a harddrive - it would be easy to fit one of those into a stag and then have modern head unit to run through.

Ihave wondered for ages about where to fit speakers in the stag and was thinig about making some pods out of MDF to go in the fron foot wells and maybe trying to stick some more powerfuk ones under the soft top as there is a gap between the rear arches and rear seat

                              Hi,
I'm considering buying a RetroSound stereo as well.

Do you have any tips on the face plate you bought, or any changes to wiring etc that were needed?
