    gearbox trouble

    Hi Guys

    I think all the traffic in Regent St yesterday was to much for my car! I'm having trouble selecting first gear and reverse,also changing gear,the clutch feels fine on the pedal but its feels like the clutch is not fully engagingany thoughts!

    Do you have an oil leak at the back of your engine or from the input shaft of your gearbox? The way you describe it you may have an oil contaminated clutch plate.... I am assuming that selection of the gears is normal with the engine off.....

        Me too - I'd forgotten how tiring a clutch pedal can be in traffic until I bought the Vitesse a few weeks ago

              HI Russ

              yes gear selection is ok without engine runninig,in fact the only wayI could get reverse was to switch off select reverse then start engine:XI hav'nt had the chance to look for oil leaks yet.

                If the problem has come on suddenly and the hydraulics are ok it might be the pin locating the release fork to the cross shaft has broken. Had this problem on the TR a few years ago. They usually break just inside the fork and leave just enough sticking out of the shaft to make it difficult to get the shaft out. If this is the case try drilling a hole in the opposite side of the fork to punch the pin out, if all else fails find your hacksaw

                      45 mins stuck in traffic in Regent street to add to the traffic problems getting to the Ace, i was so glad i had an auto, I did wonder why some of the drivers were shaking their left leg at the first stop, thought at first it was a masons sign that i was not party to, now i realise it was the manual drivers

                        Its wasn't my left leg that ached but my right ! Sitting idling in traffic not in gear with my left foot on the foot rest most of the time. I needed a foot rest for the right.

                          Ditto!

                          I was trying to be kind to my new clutch so I was frequently switching in and out of neutral so I wasn't spending long periods with my foot on the clutch.
