    SOC Website & Stag Information

It has just dawned on me that, apart from Technical Reprints, which is great as far as it goes,I do not seem to have access to detailed Stag referenceinformation provided by the SOC or SOC website.

If I want to know about production history, paint & trim codes, performance data, pressreports, etc Iseem to have to go elsewhere. Why is this not available to members?

I found this website very useful but it is not provided by the SOC: http://www.axux70.dsl.pipex.com/index.htm

That's a pretty good site Chris, not perfect, but has what most of us want, and yes, it's a great shame we haven't something of our own like it.Anyway, it's on my favourites list now. :? Martin.

I understand the sentiment Chris, but i don't believe that the info needs to be reproduced by the SOC.

I'd suggest that existing online resources should simply be referenced in a 'useful links' section - simple to do, reuse what is already available, and minimal work for the SOC.

I disagree Andy. The SOC is supposed to be the leading stag club, and should be the authority. Linking to other websites that are not under their control is a poor substitute IMO. If you take that to the extreme the SOC website would be just a list of links!!

There is no need to re-generate info that already exists - having it SOC-generated doesn't make it any more/less factual that the existing info, recent thread about colour codes/pin stripes is a great example.

i suspect our view will continue to differ ......... i'm probably in the minority - i usually am

                Hi Chris,

Is it me, but you seem to be having a go at the club a lot lately, maybe you could help them out with all your good ideas instead of all the critiscism, I don't mean this in any offensive way but you do have some good ideas, and put through the right channels, may be put into practice.

                Hope we are still friends

                Regards

                Steve

Not quite as I agree also. There's nothing wrong with links if they are appropriate and useful. Look at an airline website, they often provide a quicklink to the manufacturers website to describe their fleet.

I think a links section would be a real benefit.

                    Hi Steve (from another Steve)

I don't think Chris (V Mad) is having a go at the club - he is just raising perfectly valid questions and promoting suggestions for improvement on the forum - isn't that what an Owners Club forum is for in addition to technical assistance etc.

I agree with much Chris has said about the Club needing to be at the forefront of providing information for its members (sorry Andy:P), yes, there is a place for links to other web related information, but remember, much of this is hosted on other peoples private websites and may 'go down' for any number of reasons resulting in broken (and frustrating) links - we don't have a manufacturer to link to except the recognised parts suppliers .

Anyway - rant over - time for a mulled wine and mince pie:dude:

Thanks SteveP, you have helped to clarify my point.

I stick by my criticism of the lack of authoritative online information to members. There is not even a link provided to the info I needed.

However, on a positive note, I just got a very quick reply from our SOC archivist stating that code 75 is in factBR Green. If this is correct then the Facts and Figures info online is wrong. Perhaps this reinforces my point about keeping factual data within the club website!
