If it's Tony Fox in Canada, he's a great guy. Got my Holley adapter from him.

Does anyone have any pictures of their Stag sitting on wire wheels? It would be appreciated ifanyone could show a couple. I am toying with the idea, but haven't seen any with them on and am worried I pay all that money andend upprefering the original look.

Hi John, a couple of words about wire wheels, they look bloody marvellous, but that's where it ends, they are a genuine nightmare to keep properly clean, a friend with a Healey 3000 has to take them off every4 to6 weeksto keep them looking good, thereare the problems of loose spokes, and worn splines, and imbalance due to poor building and sheerweight, repairs are prohibitavely expensive. If that doesn't put you off go for it, they do look marvellous. Martin.

I completely agree with this comment. I had an MG Midget years ago, and it failed MOT's on loose spokes, and I had other problems with the spinners, tyres deflating etc etc.

Cheers Martin, I'm a bit of a sado in that I don't mind taking off wheels to properly clean them, as I hate seeing brake dust inside any alloy wheels, let alone wire ones. Due to time working away from home, I'll only end up doing 2000 to 3000mls in the car, if I am lucky, so hopefully if I do take the plunge, it will be a while before any repairs need done - or am I just being nieve? Any recommendations for which ones to go for or maybe more important ,which ones to avoid?

                    Hello Martin,

I just replaced the wire wheels on my TR6 by "Minilite" alloys. So those five wheels 15x5.5 are for sale (excellent condition), but need to be collected in Germany.

As far as I know there are three types on the market: Dunlop (relatively inexpensive, as mostly made in India), Dayton (expensive, as made in US) and Borelli (the most expensive ones).

I can only confirm thet wire wheels are a nightmare to keep clean. This has to be done by hand with an oily cloth. If you use high pressure water, the spoke nipples tend to rust and can never be adjusted again.

The spokes break and then the wheel has to be centered and balanced again. Most companies do not have the proper machines to balance wire wheels, as the fixing on the balancing machine by a conus is wrong.

The only advantage is, they look really great. My wife threatened to ask for a divorce if I replace mine. So let us see what happens to my marriage.

                    Kind reagards, Dieter.

She will come round when she realises what you could be doing with the time saved by not having to clean your wheels

I like these as an alternative:

Not sure if the off set would be correct though you would have to check!
                        Mike.

The classic comment about wire wheels is that they look super - on someone else's car!
