    Temperature gauge

Hi to all out there, recently purchased my second stag, after a long break in owning one,can anyone shed any light on my problem please, my temp gauge on dash has worked fine since buying the car, but all of a sudden from cold start car up gauge is reading above normall temp, car runnig fine and actual temp deems fine, any ideas as obviously the engine temp is quite critical as you all know and i would like to sort it, Regards andy.

I'd try the sender unit first.

I use 150843A from LD parts. gives a much more stable needle reading than the original .

        Hi Andy,

How's the fuel gauge? Is this reading over the top as well? If it is, then the voltage stabiliser on the rear of the instrument panel could be kaput. It's meant to give out approx 10 volts for those two gauges but if it's giving 12v then they will read high.

You can either replace as original or buy solid state as discussed on this and other forums.

        regards

        Ray

I replaced my gauge with one of those split gauges from an eType or MG, that displays oil pressure at the top & temp at the bottom. Both parts of the guage are capillary fed, so no worry about car electrics affecting them, and they're a hell of a lot more accurate.

If I can install one of these gauges, anyone can.

            Regards, Andrew

                Marty,

From the bulkhead end of the passenger side cyllinder head. I'm pretty sure its where the electrical guage fitted into. I got the split guage from a car boot and all the pipework and connectors fromSpeedograph Richfieldin Nottingham.

Believe me its a piece of cake to fit - the only thing slightly amiss is that the light in my guage is white whereas the rest of the Stag instumentation is green, but you only have to keep your eyes on one dial as opposed to replacing the clock with an oil pressure guage.

                Regards, Andrew

Hi Andrew, I got some 5 led green bulbs, they have a screw thread but that's easy and cheap to fix, it's now the best lit green gauge on the dash, they can't be dimmed, but being too dim was always the problem so what the hay. Martin.

Yep - my fault - i woke this thread up as it contained most of the info to answer the recent 'high temp' questions
