Lights on warning

Has anyone fitted a buzzer to warn you have left the lights on?

I am asking as I left them on earlier and had it not been for a very kind person coming to tell me I would have been stuck as my car is an auto!:shock::shock::shock:

Can't tell you about th ebuzzer, but I carry one of those emergency battery stations around with me (auto also). Had to use it a couple of times and on my neighbours CRV. Brilliant piece of kit and at about £20 or so well worth it.

I fitted one earlier this year. Made it from a few very cheap components bought from an electrical components shop. Less than a fiver the lot. 12v buzzer, 12v relay, diode.

Wiring diagram attached.

I took the trigger feed from the Purple/Red wire to the driver's door switch, however you could use the driver's footwell light. The feed wire was to the the instrument wiring (red/white). Taped it up behind the dashboard.

take a supply from the side light circuit to an audible alarm then earth to the chassis. interupt the circuit with a normaly closed relay fed from the ignition circuit. result is if the side lights are on with the ignition off relay closes and makes the supply to the alarm.

So if the car is parked up with the side (parking) lights on at the roadside and the ignition off, the buzzer is going off continuously whether the door is open or not.

Surely you only want the warning buzzer to go off as you leave the car having left the lights on inadvertantly.

Thanks guys, I will get one the same as DJT as I agree it is best wired upto the door so it only sounds when you exit the vechile.

Now how do I get it to bong rather than buzz?:?

hi i was reading this artical and i have bought one. the only problem is, is that the one showed in the above link, is a negative earth. stags are wired up to the door switches, with a positive charge, so i am gonna have to send it back and change it, or put another switch in.

owell it keeps me quite, thats what the wife says, coooolllll.

I fitted one to my car last year and wired it in using a relay ina similar way to Dave's.

Didn't fit a diode though. Works fine.
