Think we may have found the problem

Well the mechanic came this morning and after running her up so she was nice and warm it seems that the Heater matrix is blocked !!!!!!!!!!!!

He said that the water is getting all around the engine fine as he took hoses off and checked the flow but when he removed the heater ones it wasnt flowing out of heater which lead us to think that the matrix it blocked.

So top of my list now is to get a new matrix (how much are they !?!??!). I fancy a new one also asI want the heater to work well in the car and a new matrix should help that. I have been looking in the manual at how to get the heater out and it looks kinda involved.

While i am there i am going to order up a new set ofhosesand plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm etc as i am going to give her a service as well.

I have heard that when filling the cooling system it is best to use de-ionsed water and antifreeze is this true and what kind of mixture should i be looking to go for with the water and anti freeze ? Also what oil do you reccomend for the triumph V8 ?

Nodidnt check the heater valve where is it as thats a good point. Any heater matrix's that have gone on me in the past have dumped water all over the foot well carpets so it could well be the valve

roughly above the drivers left foot - the body is part of the matrix but the central valve bit should be free to turn the water flow on and off also check the cable controlling it is working

I always use de ionised water and Unipart blue antfreeze at about 30% strength. The de ionised water prevents corrosion through electrolyctic action - at least I think that is right!! Ipersonally use Millers Classic Sport semi synthetic 20 - 50 and am pleased with it so far, drained at 3000 mile intervals it comes out almost as good as it went in.

This is where the valve is positioned andit will have the linkage attached to it

                Cheers, Andrew

                      Darren

when you check the heater valve ,if you see the lever on the valve move dont assume it is moving the valve it's self this could well be stuck solid and the "D" shaped hole which moves itcould have been enlarged.

                      Cheers Steve

i'm hoping it is the valve or the matrix ideally .... it says in the Repair Op manual that it is only secured bya screw so if i remove it will it be easy to work out if it is broken or not ?

Millers,Valvoline(expensive but good quality),Unipart, make sure its 20/50 and you change it regularly with a new filter.

Darren try to make sure if poss the exact problem otherwise you can end up shelling out on something you dont need.

Darren on the heater valve theres a lug,see if you can move it round with your hand,if the lug is near the top try anti-clockwise or near the bottom clockwise,if no movement see if you can get a drop of plusgas around it.
