use the tool as per leyland manual to fit the trim before fitting to the car.

If the trim starts to come off during screen fitting, stop and refit it.

If you suceed, you have a certain amount of skill / dexterity and a certain amount of patience, not usually found in our species thesedays!

A professional took 8 hours to fit one to my car (years ago)

I took4 hours on my first attempt.

The outer edge of the seal cracked after 3 months!

      Hello again

The trick with the screen it to always pull toward the centre of the screen.
You can use a sealer nozzle to bed the string deep into its groove, overlap the last 8" or so either top or bottom centre.

Sit the glass and rubber on the lip at the bottom and make sure it is central and sitting as close to its place as poss. Get a friend to place a hand or two flat at the top. ( ideally at each top corner) use hand pressure to stop the glass from lifting out of its seating. Work the string one side at a time - and again pull toward the centre of the glass. Give the string a wiggle if it gets stuck or around the corners. And when it is all pulled, slap the glass until it sits into the aperture snuggly. Any part of the rubber which is not quite can be persuaded to come good with a wire hook or a trim fork.

Take your time, and you will get it. Regards Martin

Hi Dave, just to add to the confusion, cording is used to get the seal over the steel flange, ALL the pro windscreen fitters fit the trim to the rubber first, THEN install the screen, glass, trim, rubber and all. You are very unlikley to find a screen rubber that is a good fit, the only way to make it weatherproof is to use lots of sealer, and masking tape to reduce the mess. There may be other ways, but that's what the pro's do it. Martin.

            Hi Martin

I think my main problem will be getting the S.S. trim into the rubber seal,I had a go last night but gave up.

Ihave a friend that has done this installation himself and another friend that has had a pro do 2 of them within the last year or so.

Just thinking about this again and I figure that it is not really necessary for me to install the screen right now, maybeI will carry on the the restoration and install the heater/A-C unit and then the dash. Whenthe car is running I will don my Biggles hat and goggles and drive the 70 miles and have the pro install the screen

            Regards

            Dave

If you do, don't forget to take the tax disc off the windscreen and pin it to your flying jacket for the journey!!

              regards,

              Peter

                Hi Peter

Here in Ontario we do not have the tax disc that is stuck to the inside of the windshield, instead we have a small sticker that is renewed annually and stuck onto the top right hand side of the rear licence plate.

                Regards

                Dave

Hiya Dave, when we lived in W.A. we had a water slide decal on the windscreen, there was no way on Earth to pinch it, don't know if it's still the same. Martin.

I spent some time trying tofit the trim to the seal (off the car) before comparing the trim with another spare I had.

The spare trim had a shorter 'lip' that fits into the channel in the seal and whilst it would be an exaggeration to say it made the fitting easy, it did make it possible with a bit of patience.

I think the design of the trim and seal was changed slightly at some point, so trying to fit an early trim to a new seal is probably going to bechallenging to say the least.

                    Pete

The decals have been replaced by stickers now. You still get the water slide decals in Papua New Guinea though.

Here are a few shots of the licence plates and annual stickers that we have in Ontario,Canada. I was just talking to a friend of mine that lives in Buffalo,USA and he said that most US states require their stickers to be placed onto the windshield
