    EDIS IGNITION

I am thinking about wasted spark ignition

has any one used the ford edis system ,as it does not require a cam sensor

and looks quite easy to set up , i am running a holley and do not wish to change that

also what has everone else done with the redundent dissy?

as you need it in place to drive the oil pump

I like the look of that Alan ,Are you going to fit a Megasquirt to run it or is there another way?Have you found a trigger wheel that fits a Stag?or is there a bit of machining to be done.

        Cheers Steve

            does not need meqasquirt

as far as my reseach can tell (only one day)

ford edis system only needs ,crank sensor via front pulley

            as in photo

            no cam shaft sensor required

also triggerwheels.com reckon there is no problem with the correct trigger wheel to fit

I'm currently EFI ing my stag and going wasted spark.

The EDIS system does not require a CAM sensor (I assume you do mean a camshaft sensor only required for sequencial EFI systems) but does require a crankshaft sensor, like all coil pack ignition systems.

This can be done, mine for example:

The distributor can be left in place to drive the oil pump, or chopped, mine for example (now has an aluminium cover):

Don't forget the EDIS system still needs an ECU, alone with no ECU the timing is fixed in a 'limp home mode'.

Megasquirt DIY ECU can be built for exampleso you don't need an EDIS module at all, the coil packs can be driven straight from the ECU.

Its a lot of work just going wasted spark, might as well go all the way with EFI

yes i am aware it needs ecu or limp home mode will be active as it is set at 10 degrees btdc with no advance

i do however prefer to keep the holley as i have spent a lot of time and effort getting it right ,with the aid of aim wideband sensor ,as you are aware

Sorry Alan confussion here :?you indicated that you believed no megasquirt was required only the EDIS system, the EDIS system does not include thenecessary ECU to map the ignition, Megasquirt or similair ECU will be required, or Megajolt ECU for ignition only. That would be a good option for you keeping the Holley

                        yeah sorry

megajolt with ecu is what i am aiming at

The Megajolt Lite Jr. (MJLJ) is a fully programmable, stand-alone ignition controller designed to control a Ford EDIS 4, 6 or 8 crank-fired ignition module. The result is a precision, digitally controlled distributor-less ignition system.

The MJLJ is an ideal ignition solution for carburated engines; it can also work in conjunction with compatible EFI systems.

That would be a good choice

I'll end up running ignition only with my Holley before fitting my fuel injection, two steps rather than a giant leap!

Cut down disty, only retained to drive Oil pump. I found a Deodorant cap fitted the top as a cap
