    Hi there,
I had an intermittent problem with the lumenitions optical eye in the distributor. It would cut out several times in as mile, and then be ok for 300 - 400 miles. I went on a Stag run, and the first time it happened, everyone was under the bonnet keen to sort it. By the fourth time in 2 hours, we were all getting fed up as lunch was waiting.
The crunch came when it cut out in the middle lane of the M1, and I only just managed to cruise onto the hard shoulder.
A new optical eye cured it in one, but not before I had replaced coil, plugs, dizzy cap, fuel pump etc and spent £200 on an auto electrician, who could not find it.
Sums up the trials and tribulations of Stag ownership, but feels great when it's fixed!
    Peter

We lost the hire car in a Disney car park in Florida. Didn't pay enough attention where and when we returned there was a violent thunder storm we all got soaked right down to underwear before we found it.

Not so much a breakdown,as a momentary lack of go. . . ahem! I used the old bucket as a wedding car for a friend last summer and the bloody thing refused to start outside the registry office, just dropped the bride off stop a few mins for a photo right outside the front door surrounded by people and the bugger wouldnt start. Its never done it before and its not done it since.Very embarrasing. . . . . .sodding cars!

Twice, first time in the middle of Bodmin moor, a quick squeeze of the coil spade terminal with pliers sorted that one.

Second time during the MOT, and it would not re-start. Test abandoned. Very annoyed owner.

Having driven our Stag all over Europe with the Club, I am pleased to say never - I still remember one particular trip when a group of us were travelling to the South of France, when every Stag had its bonnet up at one time or another, checking water and oil etc. but 2 Stags didn't raise their bonnet once - ours and Ken Hudson.
Bless old Ken, he didn't need to check anything, the Gods watched over him ! Martin.
Was with Ken at an ESM in Holland once and he had a problem. Opened the bonnet and found an inspection lamp complete with 5 metres of cable lying on the engine!

Slightly off topic but this reminds me of the time my wife went out shopping in her Ford Orion. 3 Miles down the road she heard a thump and saw what turned out to be one of our cats running across the lane into the bushes.

Turns out the cat had settled on the gearbox and only decided to make "the great escape" once it got a little warm under the bonnet. Must have been the ride form hell but she survived with minor cuts and bruises!!!!!!!

Needless to say the cat never "pawsed" for a rest under the bonnet again!!

Only one total breakdown - Luminition power module failure - in the work car park. Was embarassing due to the number of 'get a decent car' comments.
Points regained during the current snowy weather when the Stag has been one of very few machines to make it in at all :dude:

6 year ago, just after I bought the car and it had let me down once or twice in the first few days.. I took it into a well known stag specialist for a bumber to bumper fix everything needing doing.... on the way home after a big bill, a hot, hot summers dayvery fast blat down the motorway until I got to the A249 and some bloke pulled up along side me and said "hey mate, did you know your back wheel is on fire.

Only broken down one time,it was a good place if there is such a thing,
As the breakdown driver only lived about 50 yards from were we parked up
