    sromberg,holley or weber

    I must be getting bored

    the car is fitted with holley at present and i like the running of the holley 390

    i could fit also a edelbrock carb 1801 thunder series as i have one all jetted up for stag

    but i prefer the look of strombergs

    so i am considering putting them back on

    help me make a decision

    i am swaying to the stroms

        which one?

        I have had more chrome work done since i took the stroms off, so i am trying to imagine the stromburgs as they would look now,as in the holley picture

            Hello Alan,

            Why not try the SU-HIF6 carbs? They are simpler than Strombergs, easier to adjust and provide the power you are looking for.

            Many TR6 drivers with the US carb TR6 versions have swapped their Strombergs for SU HS6s and are very happy with them.

            The SU HS6 carbs are very similar to the HIF6 ones, except the chamber, which is an integral, bottompart of the carb (cf. Strombergs).

              Hi Alan, When I had the Webers fitted by Chris I expressed that the Strombergs looked really handsome and enhanced the look of the TV8. Although I find the Webers to be more reliable/fuel efficient they don't match the period look and robustness of the Stroms.

                I appreciate that the Weber and Holley carbs are more efficient and give less trouble not to mention the extra BHP, and they certainly have the bling factor, but I still prefer the look of the original set up, as Deiter says changing to the SU carbs would give you all you want power wise, and keep the period look, personally i have had my carbs off twice in the past six months to fix various problems but i'm glad i have stuck with the Stombergs even if they are a pain in the arse to set up.

                    I had no problems with the set up of the strombergs as i rebuilt them myself

                    it was only that they flooded once or twice,if i refit them I will fit viton tipped needle valves. i also will fit uprated springs and needles from tony hart as they are reckoned to suit the extractor manifolds better.as I assume they are a richer needle

                    and i do prefer the look of the stromburgs

                    power is not an issue I dont race it

                      If you are bored, stick the Strombergs back. Maintaining them will keep youoccupied

                      Your list of poll options is not complete, you should have my Weber 38DGMS conversionas an option. This is of course the best one, but then I am biased

                        how many people have that set up? and what about fuel injection,and su 's

                        thought i would keep the poll simple as i have a choice of the three mentioned without further expence apart from my labour,but that is enjoyable

                        seems to be once you have a car restored and running all ok,ita a question of WhAT DO I DO NEXT

                        we all like tinkeringBUT common sense states
