    Valvoline VR1

Got talking to the owner of the garage where I buy my LPG. We were discussing cars and oil etc & I mentioned I was toying with putting VR1 in the Stag.I think Russ recommends it????

Anyway the guy uses VR1 in his weekend play thing and thoroughly recommends it -----so it must be good!!!!!

Oh and I forgot to mention what his weekend play thing is

He owns the 1993 Schumacher Beneton F1 car

    Darren,

yes it's great stuff, after being convinced by the king of green Ichanged mine over to it last year and, after a couple of thousand miles still gives a good 'rub test' - immediate 5psi gain in Oil pressure was a nice bonus too.

Think I'll use it again too, have been harping on about Halfords Classic car oil but Valvoline has always been good, worth the extra pennies and a good compromise between that and Millers at £45 gallon.

Would you use that over Valvoline Martin?

No sir, I trust it, I can afford it, and Wards is only 25 minutes away, but given the choice I'd go with Russ's recommendation. Martin.

Valvoline VR1 for me too. I also get around 10psi additional oil pressure when compared with millers classic oil.

We also use in our weekend car - Formula Ford Swift SC95 with Kent engine.

A week or two before Christmas, everyone was recommending Millers, no mention of Valvoline, now all of a sudden......

Hi Jeff, there is an availability issue up here in the sticks, I don't hesitate to recommend Millers semi-synth based on my experience, but Russ's is greater (he's getting on you know) and if it was readily available hereI think I would switch to VR1. There you are, that should confuse the issue. Martin.

Does anyone know the levels of zddp in valvoline VR1?

As i understand it the millers classic and competition oils have optimum levels of this (unlike generally available oils). ZDDP is reputedly necessary in any engine without roller tappets to prevent tappet wear.

                    added:

It's ok I found it on the web. VR1 racing oil contains optimum levels too. The green guru is right again!

I've been using VR 1 for a number of years now in my Stag and the engine for the Stag thatI am presently restoring will also use it. It has become an item that is not normally "off the shelf" but I don't mind waiting a few days after placing an order.

I always had a good oil pressure but have noticed that after changing to VR1 the pressure does not drop as low as before when running at normal/ hot engine temp.

Seems to hold the heat pretty well...Checked the oil just before Christmas and still thick as treacle.
