Painted Sills

Hi all
My car is in the shop getting ready for paint. I'm going for the narrow chrome strip and black sills instead of the stainless sill covers. Does anyone have a picture showing where the black should top and the body colour begin??

Why not have it body colour all the way through,for comparison,.V8 Ramblers Stag looks very nice with the narrow chrome strip and all white.

Nick - see below I think it slims the waist of the car, although I do like the chrome covers. They're just too much of a rust trap - so mine are gloss black as the back panel. May not be standard - but I love it.

Hi Nick,

Whilst I was scouring all my books for a picture, it looks likeIan's come up with one that shows it better than this fairly poor photomontage I managed to put together.

Looks like the black starts about mid height on the chrome strip.

Julian - Not saying mine are right - but having looked again, mine start at the base of the strip. I would have thought using the strip to hide any line/join (therefore half way up it) would have been better?

Anyway - you pays your money.........

Thanks for the replies the logic of finishing the black sill under the chrome strip seems to make sense to me. Anyone know if the finish was gloss originally?

On both my early MK2s(1973 and 1974) Nick they were matt black.

Hi Nick

I went for satin black sills and rear light panel.I didn't want gloss and I've found matt black tends to show marks if you get polish on it.
