Repair to vacuum modulating valve tubes

Following on from my earlier post, when I stripped the Aircon control unit I noticed the modulator valve tubes have beenbroken where the vacuum lines attach. I'm concerned that there is not enough meat to attach the lines securely. Does anybody have any suggestions how tocarry out a repair or haveyou seen something similaron another car (TR7 with aircon)thatI can easily obtain? These Stag aircon bits are like the proverbial rocking horse poo!

    Thanks in advance,

Get a cheap portable radio with a telescopic aerial - this'll give you thin-walled metal tubing in a variety of sizes. Find a bit with an outside diameter the same size as the hole in the stub and use that to effect a join with a piece of gash pipe (with some araldite) to bring it up to the right size for your rubber vac pipes.........

If you can't find an exact size match then go for the slightly bigger one and warm the pipe to melt it in rather than drill, as I've had plastic dwarf mess with the modulator operation.

It's worked for me on many modulators

      Hi Raoul

I had the same problemon the Stag that I am restoring and used epoxy to repair this part. I was not really happy with the repairs so I ended up buying the complete heater/A/C unit from ebay just to scavenge this part.

Post a request on the other forum and keep an eye out on eBay.

        Thanks Russ and Dave,

I went to a local model shop and bought some tubing, I couldn't get the correct size to fit the i.d. of the tube, so I bought some tube that fitted the o.d. exactly. I "found" the remains of the broken tubes in the vac pipes that came withthe unit, so I used them. I held them in place with the shank of a 3/32 twist drill and then superglued the brass tube over the top. It seems to have made a good repair.

It would be nice to know if thevacuum valves fitted to the Stag aircon unit are common to other cars, I was thinking TR7 or Jaguar XJ6, does anyone have any leads?

        regards,

        Raoul
