    Battery replacement

I think my battery may be on it's last legs as it seems unable to hold a charge for more than a few days, and when I charge it I can hear a lot of fizzing from down in the cells.

Anyway, the question is, how do you get the battery out - looks to me like I have to remove half the engine! Don't think the local Kwik-fit will fancy it much.

Apologies if this has been asked a million times before.

    hi
Unfortunately you have to undo and remove the three bolts holding the steering pump onto the head but not remove the pump from the car (ie keep the fluid lines attached and position the pump out of the way ) and remove and replace the battery that way, as I found out today when a put a new battery in it's a very tight fit!

if you keep it al upright you wont loose any fluid.

whats the level like on your battery ?you may just need distilled water

if you bolts come undoneits a 30-45 min job

you will need a 9/16 af and 1/2 afsocket and a plaster for the knuckles

I don't know what the fluid level is like, as I cannot see down in to the cells. The battery sits under the front bodywork so far that it's impossible to get a look at it.

If you own a Stag for any length of time you will get used to the procedure of undoing the power steering bolts, moving the unit out of the wayand then pulling out the battery. It seems an absolute nightmare at first but you get better at it as time goes by. Oh, and by the way, nothing, but nothing is easy on a Stag!

Robert 2 Stags your not wrong there, if you think the battery's hard try doing the diff by yourself one hand holding the diff whilst the other operates the jack. Oh and try getting the spline to marry with the quill shaft!:shock::P

When you take the power steering pump off use a bungee strap t hold it out the way.

Beware of the weight of the battery and make sure you don't mark your paint with your belt buckle etc! Have experience:shock:
