    Hardtop trim

I had my hardtop repainted a while ago after buying it secondhand. The chrome was pretty poor and it was taken off for the strip and paint. I've got a decent set of secondhand chrome now but being unaware at the time, I allowed the paintshop to get rid of everything they took off, and I assume with that the attachment strips for the chrome.

I know that these strips are no longer available and wondered if anyone can give me some advice on how to attach the chrome now. I'm not too concerned at riveting but can't see any easy way to do this for all strips.

    Any help appreciated.

    Tim,

Not sure what you mean by "attachment strips". The chrome (actually stainless steel) is attachedby plastic fittings (GHF1164 x 9) along the front. These pop in place and the trim is fitted over them. This is possibly the hardest one to get right without damage. The rear and lower side trims are held with metal clips (630881 x 23). These items are available from the usual suppliers. The upper side trims clip over the side drain channels.

The 'zigzag' mouldings are chrome plated mazak. These are hard to come by and are held in place with spring washers.

This leaves the window trim strips. These are tricky and I think there is a description on how to fit these somewhere on this forum.

Bits that are hard to get are the joining clips between the front and upper side trims (627137 x 2). If these are missing you could try the usual 2nd hand suppliers as they often come up on ebay. Also unobtainable are the plastic trims (623720 and 622663 x 2) but I don't see that they are really important. Just another water trap.

      Thanks Dave,

These are the bitsI was referring to. From your reply it would seem that I don't actually need them.

Looks like I just need to buy some fastenings as you suggest and gently drill holes in my hardtop .

Sorry to bring this one up again but I'm on the verge of setting to work. I've got all the brightwork(including zigzags & joining clips), the clips for the rear and lower side mouldings as well as the front, but I cannot find the clips that go over the rain gutter for the side mouldings.

Can anyone point me to a supplier who has them or an alternative that anyone has found?

        thanks

I've just boughtthe clips to refit thestainless trim in Rimmer's sale. Is there a knack to fitting the trim over the steelclips or is it just brute force with a soft hammer?

Similar problem, I've got a set of side trims (the long ones) part nos 811768 & 811767 which according to the part catalogue need part no 625951 to fit (which are currently NCA). I'm sure my old ones were clipped straight over the gutter. Painter took old ones off and never mentioned any clips. Are you sure they don't just press on?

Mark, could you confirm the long side trims are held on with clips (pic would be really useful)!

Which clips (part no please?) and which trims, the side and rear trim metal clips are a slide fit onto the trimand then pop riveted into the hardtop. Front trim is a push fit onto the plastic clips after they've been attached to the hardtop. The long side trims well that's another story!

The long side trims (hockey sticks) just pop over the gutter rails. There are no clips! I filled mine with petroleum jelly before fitting them to protect the paint and prevent water ingress.

Repeat - NO CLIPS FOR LONG SIDE TRIMS.

As you are all talking Hardtops - can you advise me if the hard top should have a locating pin in the centre on the back leading edge - ie same as soft top thanks Steve
