    Oil change woes

I was in a bit of a hurry this afternoon, a mate was coming round so we could pop to the pub. I thought I'd just do a quick oil change so I added some engine flush, ran the engine for a few minutes and then drained the oil & changed the filter. I filled the car with VR-1, removed the coil HT lead and turned the engine over to allow the pressure to build, it didn't and on checking I had a large puddle of VR-1 under the car.

I am kicking myself now as on checking the filter housing, it wasn't flush against the O-ring, I had managed to nip it up with it resting on the housing face rather than the mating surface, this meant the oil had just been gushing past the filter.

Luckily I had bought 10l of VR-1 so was able to fill the car again, a very expensive lesson learned and I've decided to buy a spin-on conversion before the next change.

I have still got the old style filter and housing as well, so will watch out for that one.

    Thanks Ian.

      Hi Ian,

I've been pondering whether to fit a spin-on conversion at the next oil change, :?:?:?

      maybe I will.......

      cheers

I have been told by a Stag engine specialist that the spin off converters are not that good compared to the original bowl type.

I am not convinced so........... has anybody had any bad experience or negative thoughts on the spin off converters?

I was supplied with a faulty one - see

Have now fitted one from flexolite and it is fine - and a lot easier at oilchange timethan the old original type. So I would say they are fine but check it out when you fit it.

I have fitted a spin on type. IMO much better!! And you can pre fill the filter before fitting!!
